WEATHERFORD, Okla. (Oct. 3) – Central Oklahoma showed off its depth in the Perkins Intercollegiate that wrapped up Tuesday, with the Bronchos' two team entries tying for third in the 54-hole tournament.
UCO's second-team squad closed with a 285 while the starting unit had a 287 as both finished three trips around the 6,880-yard, par-71 Prairie West Golf Club with 848 totals. Host Southwestern Oklahoma won the 10-team event at 840, one shot ahead of Missouri S&T.
"Our guys have been battling with each other since school started and they did it again the past two days," head coach Derrick Thompson said. "The competition has been really good for us and it's helping to make everybody better."
Caleb Kimmel fired a one-under-par 71 to pace the second team in the final round. Carson Blaser closed with a 71, while Ross Taylor and Kyle Hickey both shot 72 and Riley Harris 73.
Dylan Henderson's two-under 69 led the No. 1 unit. Nick Canales ended with a 70, Evan Griffith shot 73 and Baylor Bostick and Bennett Baldwin had 75s.
Henderson had the low finish for either team, coming in fourth with a five-under 208 total. Taylor was right behind in fifth place at four-under 209, while Hickey and Kimmel tied for eighth at one-under 212.
Henderson got off to a hot start, birdieing three of his first six holes. He got to four-under with a birdie on the par-5 11th, then made five straight pars before double bogeying No. 17 and parring No. 18 to complete a two-under round.
Taylor was two-under for the last 14 holes after a slow start to get back to even-par for the day in ending the tourney at four-under.
Kimmel highlighted his 70 with an eagle on the par-5 sixth.
The Bronchos continue their fall schedule next week, going to St. Joseph, Mo. Monday and Tuesday for the Holiday Inn Express Invitational hosted by Missouri Western.
