UCO Tames Tigers

EDMOND (Oct. 21) – Addison Wimmer knocked down 14 kills and Mallorie Koehn served up five of Central Oklahoma's 10 aces as the No. 19-ranked Bronchos brushed aside Fort Hays State Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

UCO recorded its 13th sweep of the season with the 25-17, 25-14, 25-18 rout, winning for the seventh straight time in moving to 20-3 on the season and 11-2 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.

"Addison had a lot of really good swings today and we served the ball a lot better," said head coach Edgar Miraku, whose team had 13 service errors in Friday's four-set upset of No. 8 Nebraska-Kearney. "I was a little concerned we might have a letdown after such a big win last night, but the team came out ready to play."

Miraku reached the 20-win mark for the eighth time in his 12 stellar seasons at UCO, improving to 263-88 for his career.

Wimmer was the only player with double-digit kills, finishing with 14 in 39 attacks to go along eight digs and an ace. Koehn, Sydney Huck and Mikiah Perdue chipped in six kills apiece and Jenna Karp had five, with Huck also making 16 digs.

Karp and Perdue blocked three shots each and Karp added a pair of aces. Lindsey Houran had 30 assists, four kills and two aces, while Jaedynn Evans was her usual dominating self in the back row with 27 digs.

The Bronchos trailed only once in the opening set, at 1-0. Koehn scored the next three points, following a kill with back-to-back aces and UCO soon led 6-3.

FHSU pulled even at 9-all, but Koehn came back with three consecutive kills to make it 12-9 and the Bronchos stayed safely in front the rest of the way.

Central trailed 5-4 in the second set before the hard-hitting Wimmer took over. Houran fed the junior outside hitter repeatedly the rest of the way and Wimmer responded, overwhelming the Tigers with seven kills as the Bronchos rolled to an easy 11-point win.

FHSU led most of the early going in the third set and it was tied 13-13 when UCO went on a 6-0 run. Wimmer had an ace and Perdue a kill and a combined block with Huck in giving the Bronchos a 19-13 lead and UCO went on to complete the sweep.

The Bronchos begin a five-match league road swing next week, going to Newman (Tuesday), Missouri Southern (Friday) and Central Missouri (Saturday).
