Bronchos Romp Past Newman

WICHITA, Kan. (Oct. 24) – Ten different players recorded at least one kill and No. 17-ranked Central Oklahoma overwhelmed Newman in a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association mismatch Tuesday night.

The Bronchos throttled the Jets 25-15, 25-13, 25-8 for their eighth consecutive win to open a two-week, five-match league road swing. It was the 14th sweep of the year for UCO, which improved to 21-3 overall and 12-2 in joining Central Missouri atop the MIAA standings.

"We came out and did what we needed to do," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "It was good to get a lot of different players on the court and I thought we played pretty well."

The Bronchos had a season-best .430 attack percentage, finishing with 40 kills in 79 attacks with just six errors.

Addison Wimmer led the way, hitting .400 with eight kills. Mallorie Koehn had seven kills with a .500 attack percentage, while Lari Migliorino hit .417 with six kills and Sydney Huck .364 with five kills.

Riley Roberts handled the setter duties, dishing out 26 assists to go along with four kills and five digs. Jaedynn Evans had 11 digs in limited action at libero.

The first set was tied 8-8 when UCO took control with a 6-1 run, getting a block and kill from Wimmer in that surge. Newman couldn't answer and the Bronchos pulled away from there.

It was close again in the second set before Central took control, ripping off eight unanswered points to turn a 13-10 lead into a 21-10 cushion. Wimmer had three kills and Roberts a pair of aces in that run, then Brynn Egger hammered down three kills the rest of the way.

The Bronchos didn't waste time in the third set, jumping out to a 5-1 lead. Back-to-back Migliorino kills helped push that to 12-3 and UCO cruised in from there to finish off the rout.

The road trip continues this weekend, with the Bronchos set to visit Missouri Southern at 6 p.m. Friday and Central Missouri at 2 p.m. Saturday.
