No. 8 Central Oklahoma Downs Rogers State

Jaden Wells Hits 1,000 Points, 200 Career 3-Pointers In Broncho Victory

CLAREMORE, Okla. – A pair of career highlights decorated No. 8 Central Oklahoma's MIAA win at Rogers State Saturday afternoon as the Bronchos picked up an 84-75 victory.

Jaden Wells dropped in a 10-foot jump shot on the baseline late in the first half for his 1,000th career points. Then in the second half he hit a 3-pointer in the corner for his 200th career made bucket from behind the arc.

"I'm proud of Jaden for all of his accomplishments on and off the floor," UCO head men's basketball coach Bob Hoffman said. "He's a great kid and a great teammate and he deserves all of the praise.

"I'm glad he did that, but I'm also really proud of our team for getting the win today," Hoffman continued. "We had a lot of guys step up today and play well and that was a good win for us. It's always good to win on the road."

Wells finished with a game high 22 points, hitting 8 of 16 shots overall. He made two 3-pointers on seven attempts and also was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. The third-year sophomore, who is now at 1,016 career points and 201 career made 3-pointers, also had three rebounds, two assists, and one steal.

Camryn Givens, who also is a member of the 1,000 point club, also had a big game on Saturday. He finished with 19 points and three rebounds. Givens went 6-for-8 from the floor, hit a pair of 3-pointers, and went 5-for-6 from the free-throw line.

Preston Aymond scored 13 points to go with six boards and three assists and Curtis Haywood added 11 points and three assists to give Central Oklahoma four players in double figures.

Luke Haasl added nine points, one rebound and one block. Danquez Dawsey added seven points, four rebounds and four assists, and Jalyn Turner scored three points to go with five boards and four assists.

UCO never trailed in the first half and the game was only tied twice, 2-2 and 4-4. The Bronchos led by as many as 10 points late in the half when Camryn Givens put in a layup to give Central Oklahoma a 39-29 lead.

UCO led by the same margin at halftime, 41-31.

Rogers State made a run in the second half, cutting the lead all the way down to two points. A 9-0 run ended with a jumper with 10 minutes left in the game and UCO called timeout after that leading 55-53.

But UCO slowly pulled away from that though and eventually led by nine points, 74-65, with three minutes left in the game. Central Oklahoma held on and picked up the MIAA road victory.

Saturday also marked the 100th game since Hoffman took over the program in 2019. He improved to 63-37 as head coach. He is third for winning percentage of all coaches that coached at least 100 games and joined all seven other head coaches by winning game number 100.

Central Oklahoma returns home next week and has the next three scheduled contests at Hamilton Field House.

UCO hosts No. 6 Northwest Missouri on Thursday night and will welcome Missouri Western to Hamilton Saturday afternoon. The Bronchos only play one game the following week, hosting Newman on Saturday, Jan. 21.
