Jaden Wells Named To Bevo Francis Top 100 Watchlist

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of Central Oklahoma sophomore Jaden Wells was named on the Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List, honoring the best player in the country in small college basketball.

Wells, a third-year sophomore from Hurst, Texas, is the leading scorer in the MIAA and one of the best shooters in the country.

"Jaden is such a great person to have on your team mostly because of his great attitude," UCO head men's basketball coach Bob Hoffman said. "His ability to shoot the basketball is tremendous, but he's also a great person to have in the huddle and in the locker room."

Wells has been named MIAA Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week for each of the past two weeks. He also hit a couple of career milestones recently. Wells crossed 1,000 career points and 200 career made 3-pointers.

This season, Wells is scoring at a higher rate than anyone in the MIAA. He averages 18.8 points per game and does so with high efficiency, shooting 46.3 percent from the floor.

Wells is also the league's leader in the 3-point discussion. Wells is 58-for-125, a 46.4 percent mark, with a 3.2 made 3-pointers per game average. All are the best in the MIAA. He also leads the league with a 90.8 percent mark from the free-throw line. Wells won the NCAA Division II statistical champion award for free-throw percentage last season.

Wells does more too. He averages 4.4 rebounds per game, 1.6 steals per game, and 1.5 assists per game.

Wells has scored in double figures in all but one game this season. That came this past Saturday when he left the game early with an ankle injury. His 30-point outing earlier this season is a season-high and ranks third in the MIAA for a single game this season.

Wells has also made a 3-pointer in every game but one this season – again this past Saturday. He's made at least two 3-pointers in 16 of 18 games and he hit a league best 10 made 3-pointers earlier this season.

Central Oklahoma is off to one of the best starts in school history. The Bronchos are 17-1 this season and ranked No. 7 in the country in the latest NABC Top 25. That number is expected to improve Tuesday when the new rankings are released after UCO went 2-0 last week, including a wire-to-wire double-digit victory over No. 4 Northwest Missouri.

UCO is home this week, playing Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House. The Bronchos host Newman in MIAA action Saturday at 2 p.m.
