UCO Falls On Cold Night In Kearney

Bronchos Lost 81-72 At Nebraska Kearney In MIAA Play

KEARNEY, Neb. – A cold-shooting night in Nebraska left the Bronchos on the wrong side of an 81-72 setback in the MIAA.
 
UCO held a 4-3 lead in the opening minutes but fell into a slump. Central spent nearly the entire game working to get back in it and did tie it up, 72-72, however, the Bronchos couldn't finish it off in the end.
 
Central Oklahoma fell to 12-9 on the year with the loss and is now 5-4 in the MIAA. The Bronchos are back on Saturday afternoon to take on Fort Hays State at 4 p.m. in Hays, Kansas.
 
UCO shot 40.7 percent overall making 24 of 59 total shots but the Bronchos were just 3-for-21 shooting behind the 3-point line, a 14.3 percent rate. Central helped itself with a 21-for-24 mark (87.5 percent) at the free-throw line.
 
Nwankwo scored 30 for the first time as a Broncho going 8-for-17 from the floor and 17-for-19 from the line. He also had four rebounds, three assists, three steals, and one blocked shot. He fouled out with one minute to play and the game 74-72.
 
Matthew Willenborg put up 17 points to go with 10 rebounds, recording his 10th double-double of the season. He was 7-for-15 overall, 1-for-4 from deep, and 2-for-2 at the line. He was credited with four steals.
 
The Bronchos also got eight points from Ben Averitt, six from both Parker Hannah and Marcus Zeigler Jr., and two from Jack Robinson.
 
Central Oklahoma plays at Fort Hays on Saturday afternoon and will be home again next weekend. The Bronchos host Newman Wednesday, Jan. 28 and Emporia State Saturday, Jan. 31 at Hamilton Field House.
