Bronchos Beat The Mules Again

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma handed Central Missouri its second loss in as many days Friday with an 11-10 victory before a raucous crowd at Wendell Simmons Field. The Mules, ranked No. 3 in the country, had just one loss in the previous 57 days.

Central Oklahoma is now 26-17 overall on the season following the win and the Bronchos are 18-11 in MIAA play. UCO wins the season series against Central Missouri with Game 3 scheduled for Saturday at noon. UCM is now 33-6 on the season and 26-3 in league play.

"Our guys did a good job altogether today and that crowd of students was amazing," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "The guys felt that energy. We did a good job early of putting just enough runs up and our pitchers were really good to hang on to it for us."

Central Oklahoma handed Central Missouri a rare loss on Thursday night and the Bronchos looked to be in for a long day on Friday. UCM posted five runs in the top of the first, including a pair of homers. But the Bronchos weren't to be dettered.

UCO scored two in the bottom of the first, four in the bottom of the second, and then five in the bottom of the third. The 5-0 deficit soon became an 11-5 advantage for the Bronchos.

Tucker Elliott got the start Friday and he got the win. The senior right-hander threw five innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits and four walks. He struck out six.

Ethan Wayland gave a strong one inning performance in relief of Elliott. He threw one inning, allowing two runs on one hit and one walk. He did strike out one in the outing.

Beaux Bonvillain then came on to finish it off. He threw three innings, allowing one run on five hits and a walk and he struck out four batters. Bonvillain earned his second save of the season for his efforts Friday.

UCO scored 11 runs on 11 hits. The 2-5 hitters in the lineup combined to hit five doubles.

Jaden Parsons, Central's leadoff, was 1-for-4 with a walk and he scored twice. Clayton Peterson, who hit three doubles including the walkoff winner on Thursday, went 3-for-4 with another double and he scored three runs in the game.

Garrett Takamatsu went 1-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Noah Olson went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs. Trevor Stevens, fifth in the lineup, went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Landen Wood also went 1-for-3 with two RBIs in the nine-hole.

Central Oklahoma got it going early at the plate. Stevens doubled in the first to score Peterson and Takamatsu to make it 5-2.

Takamatsu doubled in the second to score Seth Gray and Jaden Parsons. That made it 5-4. Olson gave the Bronchos the lead right after that, scoring Peterson and Takamatsu with the first of his two doubles.

Wood recorded his two RBIs on a deep sacrifice-fly in the third. The UCM centerfielder made a diving catch near the warning track and Wyatt Gray and Kaleb Glass both scored to give UCO an 8-5 lead.

Takamatsu then got his third RBI of the game with an infield groundout with the bases loaded. Seth Gray scored to make it 9-5. After that, Olson doubled again and scored Parsons and Peterson to make it 11-5.

Central Oklahoma scattered four more hits from the fourth inning on but couldn't add any more runs. UCO's pitching staff held firm though and got the victory.

UCO and UCM will battle it out one more time Saturday at noon.
