Central Oklahoma Falls In Series Finale

EDMOND - Central Oklahoma and Central Missouri squared off for a third time Saturday in an MIAA series at Wendell Simmons and after the Bronchos won the first two games, UCM picked up a win in the finale, 19-4.

Central Oklahoma is 26-18 following the loss and the Bronchos are 18-12 in the MIAA heading into the final week of the 2022 regular season. UCO is scheduled to play East Central on Tuesday in a non-conference game before finishing the season next weekend with a three-game series at Emporia State.

The Bronchos have clinched a spot in the MIAA Baseball Championship, scheduled to begin in May. The top four teams in the league standings on May 1 will host a best-of-three series and the four advancing teams will meet in Edmond May 12-15 for the league's postseason championship.

Central Oklahoma outlasted Central Missouri 9-8 in an 11-inning affair on Thursday night and UCO also won 11-10 on Friday afternoon. Saturday was a different story.

Central Missouri jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Central Oklahoma had a response though, scoring four in the bottom half. But UCO wouldn't score again and UCM scored with regular frequency after that.

Chase Lorg got the start for Central Oklahoma. He threw 2 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs on 10 hits and a walk. He did strikeout six batters though on his shift.

Owen Logan came on and threw 2/3 of an inning of relief work. He gave up two runs one hit and two walks. Lawson Isaacs also threw 2/3 of an inning. He gave up four runs on four hits. Both Logan and Isaacs struck out one batter.

Coby Grimsley pitched 1 1/3 and he allowed four runs on two hits and a walk. A.J. Ozorio-Brace finished the game with the final 1 2/3 innings pitched. He gave up one run on three hits and also had one strikeout.

Central Oklahoma had six hits in the game on Saturday. Noah Olson and Kaleb Glass both had two. Olson went 2-for-3 with a double and one run scored. Glass went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Jaden Parsons also went 1-for-2 with a run scored and Garrett Takamatsu went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run.

Central Oklahoma has just one week remaining in the regular season. The Bronchos can finish as high as No. 2 in the league standings and couldn't finish any lower than sixth. The first round of the MIAA Baseball Championship is scheduled for May 5-7 with the best-of-three series at campus sites.
