Men's Basketball Announces Averitt Signing

All-Conference State Qualifier From Jenks Coming To Edmond In 2022-23

EDMOND – The Central Oklahoma men's basketball team announced the first signing for its 2022-23 squad Wednesday with the addition of Ben Averitt of Jenks.

"Couldn't be happier for Benjamin and his decision to sign with UCO," Jenks high school head coach Clay Martin said. "UCO is getting a talented scorer, a high level athlete, and an even better young man."

Averitt led Jenks High School to the Oklahoma Class 6A state tournament last month. He posted a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double in the area consolation final to clinch a spot at state for the second time in three years.

Averitt didn't get to play in the 2020 state tournament due to the pandemic. He got to his senior season leading Jenks to a quarterfinal finish.

In the state tournament loss to eventual champion Edmond North, Averitt posted another double-double, scoring 22 points to pair with 10 rebounds.

Averitt was named First Team All-Frontier Conference following the season.

He'll join a Central Oklahoma squad in 2022-23 coming off an MIAA championship and a national tournament appearance.
