Central Romps OBU

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The UCO baseball team continued its offensive onslaught Tuesday with an 11-3 whipping of Oklahoma Baptist in a non-conference matchup at Bobby Cox Field.

Central Oklahoma is now 10-6 on the season.

"We did a good job of getting the offense going with a couple of big rallies," UCO head baseball coach John Martin. "Our pitching was solid today and that was a big help."

Central Oklahoma scored 11 runs on 10 hits. The Bronchos scored 45 runs in their series against Rogers State this past weekend and are averaging 14 runs per game over the last four games.

UCO's pitching staff was solid Tuesday. The Bronchos only allowed two hits through five innings of play. Central only conceded five hits in the game.

Lawson Isaacs got the start for UCO. He was solid, throwing three innings, allowing just one hit, and striking out three batters. He also issued two walks.

Ethan Wayland came on to throw the fourth and threw one shutout inning, getting a three-up, three-down outing. He picked up the win in the effort.

Owen Logan also threw one inning. He allowed one hit but retired the side seeing only four batters.

Jase Farmer gave up two runs on two hits and Beaux Bonvillain allowed one run and two walks while not allowing any hits through two innings of work.

Kyler Patterson threw the final two innings for UCO and struck out two batters while only allowing one hit.

Central gave up five hits and issued just four walks while the six pitchers struck out five OBU batters.

Clayton Peterson led UCO at the plate. He went 3-for-5 with a double and scored three runs. Austin Lambert also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. He scored one run.

Central jumped out to a four-run lead in the top of the third inning. With one out, Trevor Stevens, Zac Freeman and Peterson all singled before Garrett Takamatsu slammed a 2-1 pitch over the fence in left field.

The Bronchos made it 7-0 in the fifth.

Lambert singled to right center to score Landen Wood and Peterson. Then with Lambert on first and Takamatsu on third, Central executed a two-out delayed steal that scored Takamatsu and ended the inning with a 7-0 lead for UCO.

OBU finally got on the board and made it 7-3. But the Bronchos got those back.

Kaleb Glass singled up the middle to score Takamatsu, who led off the inning with a walk. Shane Nixon also singled, to right field, and that scored Lambert and Glass to give UCO a 10-3 lead.

The Bronchos added one final run in the top of the ninth for good measure. Peterson reached on a throwing error to lead off the inning, then moved up to second when Wood drew a walk. Takamatsu grounded into a double play but Peterson made it safely to third and then he scored on a wild pitch to give UCO the final, 11-3.

Takamatsu finished 1-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Glass went 1-for-4 with an RBI and one run scored. Nixon went 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Stevens and Freeman both finished 1-for-3 with a run scored.
