Central Oklahoma Tops NSU, Again

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Central Oklahoma jumped out to an early lead and never looked back Tuesday afternoon in a 9-1 victory at Northeastern State.

Central Oklahoma improved to 17-12 on the season with the win and the Bronchos are now 10-7 in MIAA play.

UCO and Northeastern State are playing their three-game MIAA series with a solo midweek contest every other week over the course of five weeks. Central won 3-0 in Edmond two weeks ago. The third and final game of the series is scheduled for Tuesday, April 12.

The Bronchos didn't waste any time getting after it on this Tuesday.

Jaden Parsons led off the top of the first with a double, and after moving to third on one flyout, he scored on another with a sacrifice fly by Noah Olson.

Moments later, Garrett Takamatsu belted his team-leading 10th home run of the season. Takamatsu turned on an 0-1 pitch and drilled it over the fence in left at Rousey Field.

That gave Central a 2-0 lead in the game, which would be enough at the end of the day.

Beaux Bonvillain got the start for the Bronchos and ended up picking up the win too. The lefty threw three innings, allowing just three hits and no runs. He struck out five in the outing.

Chase Lorg entered in the fourth and did concede NSU's only run of the day. He gave up one hit, one walk, hit one batter, and gave up one run.

Kyler Patterson closed out the win with two innings of work. He struck out four batters. Patterson did allow one hit.

NSU had five hits in the game, but just two hits over the final five innings.

Takamatsu drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the fifth and Parsons scored for the second time in the game to make it 3-1, UCO.

Wyatt Gray followed with a single through the right side that scored Clayton Peterson to make it 4-1. Olson scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded to make it 5-1. And Kaleb Glass got an RBI groundout to score Takamatsu and give Central Oklahoma a 6-1 lead after five innings.

Takamatsu made it 7-1 in the top of the eighth with a single up the middle to score Parsons.

Landen Wood got in on the action late. He tallied two RBIs with a single up the middle that scored Seth Gray and Trevor Stevens to give Central a 9-1 lead.
