UCO Drops Series Finale With Newman

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma dropped the series finale against Newman Sunday, falling 3-1 in the MIAA matchup at Wendell Simmons Field.

UCO, now 16-12 on the season overall, dropped to 9-7 in MIAA games.

"It's not good when you only give up three runs and lose," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said after the game. "And we know that. We know we need to be better. We've got to be better at the plate and we've got to do a better job when we get on base to do something with it."

Central Oklahoma only managed four hits on Sunday. The Bronchos got two of those from leadoff hitter Jaden Parsons. The shortstop went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and also walked in the game.

Noah Olson went 1-for-4 and Landen Wood went 1-for-3.

Wood scored the only run of the game for the Bronchos. After Newman scored once in each of the first three innings, Wood got on base with a one-out single in the bottom of the third.

He beat out the infield single to the pitcher to get on base. He moved to third on the first double by Parsons and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Clayton Peterson.

Olson singled in the fourth and Parsons recorded his second double in the fifth. But UCO wouldn't get another hit in the game.

Central did have more opportunities though. Trevor Stephens walked with one out in the seventh and Kaleb Glass pinch ran for him. Glass stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch but stayed there.

Parsons drew his walk in the eighth but a double play followed. Glass drew a walk in the ninth and Seth Gray, who pinch-hit for Austin Lambert walked behind him. But again, Central left runners on and couldn't produce any more runs.

UCO used five arms to get through Sunday's series finale with Newman.

Owen Logan got the start and threw 1 2/3 innings. He gave up one run in each of the first two innings but only allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two batters.

Chase Lorg threw 2 1/3 innings, allowed the third run in the third inning. He gave up four hits and two walks and struck out one batter.

Jacob Bailey threw three innings of long relief. He struck out two and allowed two hits and two walks, but kept UCO in the game not allowing any runs.

Beaux Bonvillain struck out one in the eighth and Kyler Patterson struck out one in the ninth. Neither allowed a base runner over the final two innings.

Central Oklahoma will return to its midweek series with Northeastern State on Tuesday. The Bronchos will then follow that with a three-game MIAA series at Pittsburg State next weekend.
