Bronchos Blank Northeastern State

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma found its way back in the win column Tuesday with a 3-0 shutout of longtime rival Northeastern State in an MIAA matchup at Wendell Simmons Field.

Central Oklahoma improved to 11-9 on the season with the win and the Bronchos are now 5-5 in the MIAA. Northeastern State dropped to 15-8 overall and is also 5-5 in league play.

"Our pitching was a lot better today and our offense was a little more relaxed," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "They were still aggressive and we would like to get a little more out of them, but we played well and got the win and that's what matters."

Central Oklahoma earned its second shutout win of the season.

Beaux Bonvillain, traditionally Central's closer, got the start for UCO on Tuesday in what Martin declared as a bullpen game. Bonvillain picked up the win too. He threw four shutout innings, struck out three batters and only allowed three hits and three walks.

Jacob Bailey, who has been a starter most of this season, came out of the bullpen and threw one shutout inning, striking out two of the three batters he faced. Bailey allowed one hit but didn't issue any walks.

Owen Logan also threw one shutout inning in the top of the sixth. He struck out one batter and allowed one hit but also didn't issue a walk.

Kyler Patterson then came on for a three-inning save. He was dominant, in fact perfect, over the final three innings to help Central get the win.

Patterson struck out the side in the seventh, got three quick groundouts in the eighth, and then struck out the side in the ninth to get the save.

UCO scattered six hits to get three runs, but only had one RBI in the game.

Jaden Parsons was solid, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Clayton Peterson went 2-for-4 with a double, and he had the one RBI. Austin Lambert and Landen Wood both had one hit each.

Peterson singled to right field in the bottom of the third and that scored Parsons to make it 1-0. Kaleb Glass scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth and Wyatt Gray scored on a balk in the same inning to make it 3-0.

Central Oklahoma has a quick turnaround yet again. The Bronchos are scheduled to play their fifth game in five days Wednesday when UCO travels across the OKC metro to take on Southern Nazarene. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
