Bronchos Fall In Game 2

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The UCO baseball team stunned Missouri Western's hitters on Saturday in the first game of the three-game MIAA series but the host Griffons soared back on Sunday and beat the Bronchos, 7-4.
 
UCO is now 6-4 on the season and 1-1 in the MIAA. The rubber match in the series is scheduled for Monday at 1 p.m.
 
"They got after us today and I thought we responded okay, just not good enough," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "The goal is to win the weekend and we need to win tomorrow to do that."
 
Missouri Western recorded one hit in Saturday's series opener and that came with two outs in the ninth inning. Sunday, MWSU had a dozen hits.
 
Central trailed 5-0 after four innings before finally getting on the scoreboard.
 
Seth Gray singled to left center with one out, advanced when Dave Janssen was pegged on the next at bat, and then moved up to third on a Zac Freeman fielder's choice. Clayton Peterson had one of his two singles after that to score Gray and put the Bronchos on the board.
 
Western came right back and scored two more in the bottom of the fifth though to take a 7-1 lead.
 
In the top of the sixth, Central closed the gap.
 
Garrett Takamatsu led off with a walk and Noah Olson drew a walk right behind him. After the first out, Shane Nixon singled to left to score Takamatsu. After the second out, Janssen doubled to left to score Olson and Nixon and make it the eventual final, 7-4.
 
Nixon led the Bronchos at the plate. He went 3-for-4 with one double, one RBI and one run scored. Peterson went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Janssen (1-for-2) had a double and Gray (1-for-4) had another hit and scored a run.
 
Central scattered seven hits in the game to plate four runs.
 
Chase Lorg got the start for the Bronchos and took the loss on Sunday. He threw four innings, allowed seven hits and five runs. He issued three walks and struck out two batters.
 
Jase Farmer came on in relief and gave up two runs on three hits. He also had two strikeouts. Coby Grimsely threw the sixth and seventh innings and struck out two batters while not allowing any base runners. Beaux Bonvillain finished off the game in the bottom of the eighth, striking out two batters while allowing two hits.
 
All four Broncho pitchers recorded two strikeouts in the game.
