Ritz Hit Lifts Bronchos Past Harding

EDMOND (Feb. 19) – Terin Ritz was expected to give Central Oklahoma an immediate offensive boast this spring and the hard-hitting freshman certainly did that Saturday afternoon.

Ritz ripped a run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the No. 16-ranked Bronchos a thrilling 2-1 victory over Harding at Gerry Pinkston Stadium. UCO improved to 10-2 with its eighth straight win.

The Bronchos return at 12:15 p.m. Sunday to take on Arkansas Tech on the third day of the Broncho Invitational before finishing against East Central Monday.

Central ended a tense pitcher's duel with a two-out rally in the eighth.

Tarin Dubler got the Bronchos going with a single to left field and moved to second when Jacee Minter – who leads the team in average and runs batted in – drew a four-pitch walk.

That brought up Ritz and the rookie designated player delivered. Ritz lined the second pitch she saw to left field, with the speedy Dubler racing home to easily score the winning run.

Kylee Lynch was masterful in the pitcher's circle in throwing her sixth straight complete game. The sophomore southpaw allowed just two hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out two in improving to 7-0.

"That was a great win for us," head coach Cody White said. "Harding has a really good team and we found a way to get it done.

"We didn't do a lot at the plate, but we had three clutch at bats at the end with the walk and the two big hits by Tarin and Terin. Kylee was strong in the circle and we played good defense behind her."

Dubler finished with two of Central's six hits and scored both runs to lead the offense.

The Bisons scored their only run of the game in the top of the fourth with a solo homer to take a 1-0 lead, though it was a brief one as the Bronchos answered back in the bottom of the frame.

Dubler led off the inning with an infield single and stole second before scoring on Amelya Huggins' two-out bloop single to center field. That made it 1-1 and neither team threatened again until UCO's game-winning rally.
