Bronchos Head To Lindenwood Open Saturday

No. 4-ranked Central Oklahoma continues its early-season tournament schedule this weekend when the Bronchos trek to St. Charles, Mo. for the rugged Lindenwood Open.

First-round action starts at 9 a.m. inside Robert F. Hyland Arena on the Lindenwood campus and the tournament runs all day. At least 44 teams are scheduled to send individuals to the meet, with No. 2 Iowa and No. 3 Missouri headlining a list of 15 Division I teams set to attend.

It's the third open tournament of the young season for UCO, which will send a full contingent of starters, back-ups and redshirts.

"This will be a tough event for us," head coach Todd Steidley said. "It's a huge tournament with a lot of Division I teams, so it will be a great test for our guys. We'll have to be ready to wrestle."

The tournament will feature both an open division and freshmen-sophomore division, with more than 500 individuals expected to compete.

The Bronchos have six returning placers set to attend. Ty Lucas won the 157-pound title a year ago, while Brik Filippo was runner-up at 149, Studd Morris third at 125 and Anthony DesVigne fourth at 165. Lucas will be at 165 and DesVigne at 174 this weekend.

Heavyweight Braden Morgan took third and 149 Garrett Messimore fourth competing in the freshman-sophomore division.

UCO, 2-0 in duals, sent several starters to the Dan Harris Open in Baldwin City, Kan. on Nov. 6 before back-ups and redshirts went to last week's Viking Open in Poteau, Okla.

Dylan Lucas has led the Bronchos in the early going, having gone 6-0 with six bonus-point wins at 133. Morris and DesVigne are both 7-0 and all three won titles at the Dan Harris Open. Gabe Johnson is 7-1 at 157, while Morgan (6-2) and Christian Arriola (8-2 with five falls) have both fared well at heavyweight.

The Bronchos will be off next week before resuming the dual schedule Dec. 2 at home against Ouachita Baptist.
