UCO Hosts Barclay College Tuesday

No. 11 Central Oklahoma Continues Three Games in Five Days Stretch At Hamilton Field House

EDMOND – No. 11 Central Oklahoma keeps a busy week rolling when the Bronchos host Barclay College (Kan.) Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Hamilton Field House.

Central Oklahoma (1-0) defeated Paul Quinn College (Texas) on Sunday afternoon and will also host Kansas Christian Thursday night at Hamilton. The three non-conference matchups highlight a busy opening week for the highly rated Bronchos.

"It was good to get on the floor against someone else on Sunday and we're looking forward to this week as we get this thing going," UCO head men's basketball coach Bob Hoffman said. "We had a good preseason of practice and scrimmages, but now it's time to go for real."

Barclay College, of Haviland, Kansas, west of Wichita, comes to Edmond for the first time. The Bears are 0-2 this season after a trip to Lansing, Michigan this past weekend.

Barclay lost 125-69 against Great Lakes Christian College and 110-70 against Grace Christian. The Bears are shooting 29.7 percent from the floor overall after two games played, with a 29.0 percent rate from behind the 3-point line. Barclay has a 66.7 percent mark from the free-throw line.

Central Oklahoma has already had an interesting start to the 2022-23 season. The Bronchos were scheduled to fly to North Dakota this past weekend for the Central Region Challenge, but weather caused the cancellation of the flights and ultimately, the event. UCO then added Paul Quinn on Sunday to make up for one of its two lost games.

Central finally got on the floor Sunday for an official contest, but the Bronchos didn't face much deterrence from Paul Quinn College, which is an NAIA school in Dallas.

UCO shot 53.2 percent from the floor with a 39.4 percent mark from behind the 3-point line. The Bronchos made 13 threes in the game. UCO also shot 66.7 percent from the free-throw line, hitting 18 shots from the stripe.

Jaden Wells led the Bronchos with 22 points and nine rebounds. Curtis Haywood added 18 points and nine rebounds. Camryn Givens (12), Preston Aymond (10) and Mike Quick Jr. (10) all scored in double figures as well.

UCO will host Barclay Tuesday night before welcoming Kansas Christian to Hamilton Field House on Thursday night. The Bronchos are then scheduled for a week-long trip for the 2022 Hoops in Hawaii Classic. Central Oklahoma is scheduled to play at Hawaii-Hilo and Hawaii Pacific, where Central will take on Hilo, UC-Colorado Springs, and Cal-State San Bernardino over the Thanksgiving holiday week.

Central Oklahoma will begin MIAA play following a return from Hawaii. The Bronchos visit Central Missouri and Lincoln the first weekend of December and will host Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State the second weekend.
