Bronchos Fall To Central Missouri

Mistakes proved costly for No. 18-ranked Central Oklahoma in a four-set Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association setback to Central Missouri Thursday night at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos committed a season-high 32 attack errors to go along with seven service miscues in dropping a 25-20, 18-25, 27-25, 25-11 decision. UCO fell to 22-5 on the season and 12-5 in the conference while the defending MIAA champion Jennies improved to 17-8 and 12-4.

Central wraps up the home schedule Friday, hosting Missouri Western at 6 p.m. It will be the final home appearance for the team's lone senior, outside hitter Courtney Lane.

"We didn't play very well," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "Central Missouri has a really good team and they had a lot to do with that, but we just made far too many mistakes tonight. We just have to put it behind us and get ready for tomorrow."

The Bronchos hit just .125 in the match with 55 kills and 32 errors in 184 attempts.

Sydney Huck led UCO with 15 kills and 15 digs, while Jenna Karp had 14 kills and three blocks. Brynn Egger chipped in seven kills and three blocks.

The Bronchos also got 46 assists, 12 digs and six kills from Lindsey Houran. Jaedynn Evans (24 digs), Katie Le (11) and Josie Thomas (10) paced the back-row defense.

UCO trailed most of the opening set and was down 18-15 before rallying to tie it at 19-all on Mallorie Koehn's solo block. But the Jennies scored the next three points to take control and went on to the five-point win.

The second set was deadlocked 14-14 when the Bronchos used a 9-1 run to take control. Huck had two kills and four other players had one each in that spurt, which Karp capped with a solo block that made it 23-15.

UCO finished off the win and then grabbed a quick 4-0 lead in the third set only to see Central Missouri storm back to move front 13-9. The Bronchos rallied to take a 20-18 lead on an Egger kill and it was a 22-20 advantage after Koehn's ace.

The Jennies scored three straight to go ahead 23-22 before a Lari Migliorino kill tied it. It was deadlocked again at 24 and 25 before a service error and attack error gave UCM the set.

It was all Central Missouri in the fourth set. The Jennies raced to a 7-0 lead and never looked back in closing out the match.
