No. 18 Central Oklahoma Cruises Past Missouri Western

EDMOND – No. 18 Central Oklahoma had to work for a first-set victory but cruised through the next two as the Bronchos swept Missouri Western 3-0 Friday night at Hamilton Field House.

Lari Migliorino's 11 kills and three service aces led a balanced attack while Courtney Lane, who was celebrated prior to first serve as the lone senior on the squad, added nine kills.

Jenna Karp (eight) and Sydney Huck (seven) also had a big role in Central's offense, which hit .289 with 45 total kills in the match.

Lindsey Houran set the way, putting up 35 assists.

Central Oklahoma and Missouri Western went back and forth in the first set, with eight ties and four lead changes before a strong finish left the Bronchos with a 25-23 win.

UCO led 3-0 early, but trailed by two points on six different occasions as the set played out. MWSU even took a late, 20-17 lead following a Central timeout.

Houran scored on a set dump to put the Bronchos ahead 24-22, and Migliorino put home the 25th point her fourth kill of the opening set.

Central Oklahoma didn't see anywhere near the opposition in the second set. The Bronchos built a quick 2-0 lead and the set was never tied after that. UCO led 10 midway through and polished off a 25-13 win with another Migliorino kill.

The third set was tied three times and there was one lead change, but that came after MWSU took a 1-0 lead and the Bronchos quickly erased it, taking a 4-3 lead on Brynn Egger's kill.

Jaedynn Evans paced the Central defense with 26 digs while Huck added 10 and Josie Thomas nine. UCO had five blocks on defense too. Houran, Karp, Migliorino and Lane all had solo blocks while Karp and Egger teamed up for one as well.

Egger was one of five Bronchos with at least six kills.

Migliornio hit a blistering .647 from her middle position, putting home 11 kills on 17 attacks with no errors. She added three aces, three digs and the one block.

Lane, a fourth-year junior who will graduate this year and move on in her nursing program, had nine kills on 30 attacks and the one blocked shot. The Denver, Colorado native moved to 700 career kills by the end of the night.

Central Oklahoma will not play in front of its home crowd again this Fall. The Bronchos have two road matches next weekend to wrap up the regular season and will then head to St. Joseph, Missouri for the 2022 MIAA Volleyball Championship Nov. 10-12.

Central plays at Newman on Tuesday and at Northwest Missouri Wednesday of next week.
