No. 9 UCO Visits Washburn

TOPEKA, Kan. – The No. 9-ranked Central Oklahoma men's basketball team wraps up a two-game road swing Saturday at Washburn. Tipoff from Lee Arena is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The Bronchos won at Emporia State on Wednesday night. UCO is now 17-2 this season with a 12-1 record in the MIAA, which is good for first place. Washburn is 12-7 overall this season and has a 9-4 record in the MIAA.

Central Oklahoma not only goes to Topeka as the first-place squad in the league, but the Bronchos are on a 13-game win streak too. It's the longest streak by the Bronchos since 2009-10. This season is the fifth time in school history the Bronchos have had a 13-game win streak. The school record is a 16-game run during that 2009-10 campaign.

Central Oklahoma heads into Lee Arena at Washburn still holding firm as the highest scoring team in the MIAA. The Bronchos average 83.9 points per game this season and UCO has a plus-14.9 scoring margin. Central is one of the most efficient teams in the country too. The Bronchos shoot 50.1 percent from the floor, 38.9 percent from the 3-point line, and 77.9 percent from the free-throw line. UCO averages 9.3 made 3-pointers per game and 15.4 made free-throws per game.

Isaiah Wade was named MIAA Player of the Week earlier this week. It's the second time this season he's won that award. The announcement this week came on his 24th birthday and he followed that with a monster 23-point, 15-rebound performance in Emporia on Thursday night. Wade continues to lead Central Oklahoma in scoring and rebounding. He's averaging 19.3 points per game and 8.8 rebounds per game.

Camryn Givens is Central's second-leading scorer and rebounder. He's averaging 15.1 points per game and 5.8 rebounds per game through 18 games played this season. Givens shoots 53.3 percent overall, 40.7 percent from behind the 3-point line, and 75.7 percent from the free-throw line. He has continued a steady climb toward becoming Central Oklahoma's 43rd 1,000-point scorer this March. Givens has 884 points heading into Saturday's matchup.

Jaden Wells is hot on the heels of Givens. The second-year freshman, who does nearly all his work on the perimeter, is averaging 14.7 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game. Wells ranks fifth in the country in total 3-point field goals made this season. He's hit 63 shots from deep. Wells is also among the best shooters in the country with a 46.3 percent success rate on 3-point attempts. That mark ranks 19th nationally.

Central Oklahoma points guard Callen Haydon fills up the stat sheet. The junior is averaging 13.7 points per game, 5.9 assists per game, 3.3 rebounds per game, and 1.7 steals per game. He shoots 48.6 percent from the floor, 40.0 percent from behind the 3-point line, and 88.9 percent from the free-throw line. Haydon ranks seventh nationally in total assists (106) and 17th nationally in assists per game.

Preston Aymond is averaging 8.1 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game. He's a 52.3 percent shooter and an 86.7 percent free-throw shooter.

Davon Richardson adds 5.5 points per game and 3.3 rebounds per game. He's a 52.0 percent shooter overall.

Jalyn Turner (3.5) and Carson Calavan (2.9) also add to the mix. Turner averages 1.9 rebounds as well and is a 42.9 percent shooter. Calavan adds 3.3 assists per game. His 59 assists this season rank sixth in the MIAA not far behind Haydon's league-leading 106.

This is the second meeting of the season between the two schools, with Central Oklahoma winning 97-87 in overtime in Edmond last month. That gave UCO an 18-16 lead in the all-time series. The Bronchos have won two in a row in the series for the first time since 2015-16.

Washburn is 12-7 this season and has a 9-4 record in the MIAA. The Ichabods average 74.1 points per game and allow 69.0 from the opposition. Tyler Geiman leads WU with 13.8 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game. He also averages 6.5 assists per game. Jalen Lewis (12.8 PPG) also averages double figures.

Central Oklahoma is the highest scoring team in the MIAA this season as the Bronchos head into Lee Arena in Topeka. And it was 20 years ago this season that Central Oklahoma scored 132 points in this same venue, a record that still stands today. The Bronchos beat Washburn 132-114 in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament's South Central Regional.

Central Oklahoma is scheduled to return to Hamilton Field House Feb. 3 against Nebraska Kearney and the Bronchos will also host Fort Hays State on Feb. 5.
