Central Downs Jets

WICHITA, Kan. (Sept. 18) – Jenna Karp and Courtney Lane combined for 29 kills in leading Central Oklahoma to a four-set Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association victory over Newman Saturday afternoon.

The Bronchos prevailed 24-26, 25-18, 25-19, 25-18 to improve to 8-2 on the season and 1-1 in the league after opening MIAA play Friday with a hard-fought loss at Pittsburg State.

"It was a good win for us," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "We lost a tough one lost night and I was proud of the way we bounced back today. We played pretty well the last three sets."

Central hit .316 for the match, committing just 11 errors in 158 attacks with 61 kills.

Karp and Lane paced that hot-hitting effort.

Karp hit .424 with 15 kills and one error in 33 attacks while adding four blocks. Lane hit .353 with 14 kills and two miscues in 34 attempts to go along with 18 digs.

The Bronchos also got nine kills and 11 digs from Mallory Hendrix. Amanda Desch dished out a career-high 50 assists while also knocking down eight kills and making 12 digs.

Mallorie Koehn and Nalani McCrary chipped in seven kills apiece and Katie Le had 18 digs.

UCO returns home this weekend for two conference matches, hosting Fort Hays State at 6 p.m. Friday and Nebraska-Kearney at 3 p.m. Saturday.
