Griffith In The Hunt

TOPEKA, Kan. (Sept. 13) – Evan Griffith had a pair of steady rounds to put himself in the hunt for medalist honors in leading Central Oklahoma on the first day of the Washburn Invitational Monday.

The sophomore standout fired rounds of 72-73 at the 6,654-yard, par-71 Topeka Country Club, leaving himself tied for fifth in the individual standings with a 145 total. Southwestern Oklahoma's Gregor Weck leads at one-under 141 heading into Tuesday's final round.

The Bronchos are 10th in the team standings at 606 after shooting 301-305. Arkansas Tech leads the 19-team tourney at 587, followed by host Washburn (588), Henderson State (592), Rogers State (593) and Central Missouri (593).
 
"It was a tough day on a really hard golf course," first-year head coach Derrick Thompson said. "Evan had a great day and played well. Hopefully we can come out and play better tomorrow."
 
Bennett Baldwin had Central's second-best score with a 153 total after shooting 74-79. Caleb Kimmel carded a pair of 77s, while Ross Taylor shot 80-76 and Riley Harris 78-81.

It's the first tournament of the fall season for the Bronchos.
