Bronchos Downed In Series Opener

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team dropped the series opener at Rogers State Friday, falling 3-1 in the first of three MIAA games this weekend against the Hillcats.

Central Oklahoma went down 3-1 in the bottom of the third and got one back in the fifth but couldn't find the offense Friday afternoon.

"We need to do a better job at the plate," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "You're not putting yourself in a position to win when you perform like that. They're a good team and we need to score more runs. We'll try to do better tomorrow."

Philip Scott led Central with two hits, which was half the total the Bronchos put on the scoreboard Friday. Scott singled in the first and third innings. He also drew a walk in the eighth.

Garrett Takamatsu added one hit and Kameron Kilchrist did as well, both managing singles.

Zac Freeman scored Central's only run. He reached on an error by RSU and advanced to second base on the play. Ryan Harrel's fly-out to center field moved Freeman to third. He would score when Shane Nixon also reached on an error.

Luke Anderson got the start for the Bronchos Friday. He took the loss after a four-inning outing that saw Rogers State put up all three of its runs. Anderson allowed six hits and three runs as well as two walks. He struck out five on the day.

Lawson Isaacs threw one inning of relief work, Colton Croft threw 1 1/3, and Kyler Patterson added 1 2/3 to finish the game. Patterson struck out three batters.

Central Oklahoma and Rogers State are scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.

UCO, now 18-16 on the season, is home again Tuesday against Oklahoma Christian and then will finish the 2021 regular season next weekend at Northeastern State.
