Bronchos Blanked In Opener

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (April 11) – Central Oklahoma's offense was stymied in a 3-1 first-game loss to Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rival Missouri Western Sunday afternoon.
 
The No. 18-ranked Bronchos managed just three hits in the doubleheader opener, falling to 23-8 overall and 12-3 in conference play. The Griffons improved to 20-9 and 9-2 heading into the nightcap.
 
"Missouri Western has a really good pitching staff and they shut us down pretty good," head coach Cody White said. "We tried to make a little rally at the end, but fell short."
 
UCO's only scoring threat came in the top of the seventh when the Bronchos tallied their only run.
 
Shayla Harper led off the inning with a walk and Jacee Minter followed with a run-scoring double to center field. Hazel Puempel then singled up the middle to put runners on first and third with no outs, but a strikeout and double-play ended Central's hopes.
 
MWSU scored once in the first and it stayed 1-0 until the sixth when the Griffons scored their other two runs.
 
Puempel had two of UCO's three hits.
