UCO Visits Rogers State Wednesday Afternoon

Bronchos Begin Three-Games In Four Days Road Trip

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma men's basketball team begins a three-games in four-days road trip to end the 2020-21 regular season. The Bronchos start with Rogers State Wednesday at 3 p.m. from the Claremore Expo Center.

UCO will also play at Central Missouri on Thursday and at Missouri Southern Saturday to close out the regular season. Central Oklahoma hasn't qualified for the MIAA Tournament yet, but are sitting in seventh place heading into the final weekend.

Central is 10-9 overall this season. Rogers State is 10-10.

"We excited to get back on the court after this past weekend," UCO head coach Bob Hoffman said. "We know we didn't play our best and it cost us two games and the guys are ready to respond. We know we're a better team but we know we have to prove it too."

Central Oklahoma was the highest scoring team in the MIAA in the month of February before this past weekend when the Bronchos uncharacteristically dropped back-to-back games to lowly Northeastern State.

Central still does average 79.5 points per game this season through 19 games played. The Bronchos are the fifth-highest scoring team in the MIAA. Central does still hold the league lead in scoring for the month of February at 87.1 points per game.

UCO shoots 45.7 percent overall, 37.5 percent from behind the arc, and 74.1 percent from the free-throw line. The Bronchos average 8.6 made 3-pointers per game and 15.9 made free-throws per game.

Callen Haydon leads Central in scoring at 14.2 points per game. The junior point guard from El Reno, Oklahoma is also the team's leader in assists and among the best in the conference in dishing the ball. Haydon averages 4.8 assists per game, which ranks fourth in the league. His 92 total assists also ranks fourth in the league. Haydon is shooting from the floor 55.3 percent overall, 62.2 percent from behind the 3-point line, and 86.3 percent from the free-throw line.

Isaiah Wade is second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.7 points per game. He's also the team's leading rebounder at 9.2 boards per game. Wade has posted seven double-doubles this season, including a monster game of 21 points and 18 rebounds last month. Wade shoots 52.8 percent from the field and is also second on the team from the free-throw line (56-for-83).

Camryn Givens joins Haydon and Wade in averaging double figures in scoring this season. A junior forward, Givens is averaging 13.6 points per game to go with 7.1 rebounds per game. He shoots 48.1 percent from the field, 35.8 percent from behind the arc with 29 made threes this season, and 80.3 percent from the free-throw line.

Jaden Wells makes it four Bronchos in double figures with his 10.2 points per game average. Wells leads the team from outside having gone 45-for-115 from behind the arc. His 39.1 percent is also a team high.

Wells has hit three 3-pointers in four consecutive games. He's made at least one 3-pointer in 16 games, multiple 3-pointers in 14 games, and three 3-pointers in eight games. Wells hit five in a win at Emporia State and hit a season-high six in a win over Lincoln in Edmond.

Shemar Smith (7.3) and Davon Richardson (6.1) are also both lending big hands in the scoring load for the Bronchos. Smith also averages 3.9 rebounds per game and Richardson averages 2.4 to with 20 steals, which is the second most in the lineup.

Central Oklahoma beat Rogers State 93-83 in a spirited contest in Edmond last week. The Bronchos have a 2-4 all-time record against the Hillcats of Claremore, Okla.

Rogers State welcomes UCO averaging 75.4 points per game this season. RSU shoots 44.5 percent overall, 33.4 percent from outside, and 78.6 percent from the free-throw line. Devin Pullum leads the team averaging 15.4 points per game. Jett Sternberger is averaging 12.7 while Darraja Parnell (12.4) and Brewster Peacock (10.0) also average double figures.
