Central Oklahoma Visits Midwestern State

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The University of Central Oklahoma men's basketball team will play its first road contest of the 2021-22 season Saturday when the Bronchos visit Midwestern State University. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
 
Central Oklahoma is 3-0 this season. The Bronchos opened the year with a win over Northwestern Oklahoma State and followed that with a win over Mary (N.D.) the next day. Wednesday, Central beat Jarvis Christian by 50 points.
 
Midwestern State is 1-1 this season. The Mustangs lost to UC-Colorado Springs in the season opener before beating Colorado State Pueblo.
 
"This will be a good test for us," UCO head men's basketball coach Bob Hoffman said. "We've been fortunate this last week to play well and we need to keep playing at that level. Midwestern State is a good team and will push us. We need to be focused on our game plan and executing it."
 
Central Oklahoma is averaging 90 points per game through three games this season. The Bronchos are shooting the ball well, at 50.8 percent, and are also hitting 45.6 percent of their 3-point attempts. Central is at 76.6 percent from the free-throw line, making an average of 16.3 per game.
 
Isaiah Wade leads Central Oklahoma and the senior forward has been dominant through the first week of play. Wade averages 21.0 points per game and 11.3 rebounds per game. He's shooting 61.9 percent from the field, with just over eight made baskets per game. He's a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the arc and is also 8-for-11 from the free-throw line.
 
Jaden Wells is the team's second leading scorer through three games. The second-year freshman is averaging 14.7 points per game. Wells has hit 11 3-pointers in three games, with five makes in the win over Mary and four makes in the win over Jarvis Christian. Wells is 13-for-26 from the floor overall and 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. He also is averaging 3.7 rebounds per game and 1.7 steals per contest.
 
Camryn Givens is scoring 10.7 points per game through three games. He is also shooting 50 percent, at 12-for-24, and has two made 3-pointers and six free-throws through the first week of the season. Givens also averages 6.0 rebounds per game.
 
Callen Haydon averages 9.7 points per game and 6.33 assists per game. Haydon shoots 39.1 percent overall, 28.6 percent from outside, and 90 percent from the free-throw line. His nine made free-throws leads the team. He also averages 3.7 rebounds per contest.
 
Preston Aymond, another second-year freshman on the UCO roster, is averaging 8.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game through three games played. Aymond is shooting 52.9 percent in 20.5 minutes per game for the Bronchos.
 
Jalyn Turner (6.0), Davon Richardson (5.3) and Carson Calavan (5.3) also help out in the scoring load.
 
Defensively, Central Oklahoma is allowing 67.0 points per game. Opponents are shooting 38.5 percent against the Bronchos, including a 26.3 percent mark from behind the arc. Teams make 8.7 threes per game against Central and 9.0 free-throws per game, making 60 percent of shots from the line.
 
Midwestern State averages 77.5 points per game after two games this season. The Mustangs shoot 42.2 percent overall, 32.7 percent from 3-point land, and 75.0 percent from the free-throw line. MSU has four players averaging double figures.
 
Terrell Wilson leads MSU at 13.5 points per game and has made a team-high three 3-pointers. Pierre Sanders is averaging 12.0 points per game and leads Midwestern State with 7.5 rebounds per game. Jermane Carter averages 11.5 points per game and is second on the team in rebounding at 7.0 per contest. Jamey Sanders also averages double figures at 10.0 points per game. He also has three made 3-pointers in two games for the Mustangs.
 
Central Oklahoma will return home for another non-conference matchup next weekend. Following the Thanksgiving holiday, UCO will host Cameron on Saturday, Nov. 27. The Bronchos will then turn to MIAA play when the calendar turns to December. Central Oklahoma plays at Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State the first weekend of December for the first two of 22 MIAA games this season.
