Central Oklahoma finished fifth in the league last season with an 13-11 record but was picked third ahead of this season. Defending national champion Northwest Missouri was picked first and received 13 first-place votes. Washburn was picked second and had the other first-place vote. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own school.

UCO was also picked fifth in the media poll with a total of 86 points.
