Future Bronchos Victorious In All-State Hoops Affair

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma hosted the annual Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association All-State games Saturday and three future Bronchos not only participated but stood out in the showcase at Hamilton Field House.

Davon Richardson and Conner Calavan represented the Large East All-State team and Austin Fenton represented the Small East All-State team. Each of the soon-to-be UCO hoopsters fared well.

"I'm really proud of each of them," UCO head coach Bob Hoffman said. "It was so much fun to watch them play one more time before they become Bronchos. It was really fun to watch Davon and Conner get to play together too. They all did really well and we're just excited to get to coach them now."

Richardson, from Sand Springs High School, scored 15 points and added five rebounds and three steals as he and Calavan – eight points and five rebounds – led the Large East to an 89-84 victory. Calavan, who starred at Fort Gibson, hit a pair of 3-pointers while Richardson knocked down one from behind the arc.

Calavan scored the first basket of the afternoon with a deep, 25-footer from just to the right of the top of the key. Richardson followed with a 3-pointer of his own from the right corner to give the Large East a 6-0 lead. Richardson also scored the final basket of the game, putting in a layup with an assist from Calavan.

Fenton also led his team to victory, with the Small East winning 85-75 in the second game of the afternoon. The Talihina product scored 14 points on 5 of 7 shooting, including a 4-for-6 performance from outside the arc. Fenton was near automatic from outside, hitting a 3-pointer in the first and third quarter and then two more again in the fourth quarter. He added four rebounds to his stat line.

All three have been on campus this summer for voluntary workouts. The trio will look to help Central Oklahoma this coming winter.
