Bronchos Head To Wichita In Only Game Of The Week

WICHITA, Kan. – The University of Central Oklahoma men's basketball visits Newman University Saturday and will tipoff at 3:30 p.m. in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.

Central Oklahoma is 1-3 heading into the weekend. The Bronchos are coming off their first win of the season last weekend when UCO topped Nebraska Kearney 72-65. Central dropped its season opener to Missouri Southern by only one point before losing against Pittsburg State and then again at Washburn, which is now ranked No. 10 in the country.

UCO is averaging 70.8 points per game this season. The Bronchos shoot 40.4 percent overall, 27.6 percent from behind the arc, and 76.2 percent from the free-throw line.

Wade is averaging 11.5 points per game this season. The senior forward is also leading the team with 9.3 rebounds per game. Wade has made 19 shots from the floor and is shooting 48.7 percent.

Callen Haydon is the third Broncho averaging double figures. The junior guard has scored 40 points in four games for an even 10.0 points per game average. Haydon leads the team from the free-throw line, having made a team-high 18 on a team-high 21 attempts.

Haydon boasts an 85.7 percent mark at the free-throw line this season, as does Givens, who is 12-for-14 through four games. The two are tied for sixth in the MIAA for free-throw percentage.

Justin Nimmer is just out of the double figures group averaging 9.5 points per game. Nimmer joins Givens, Wade, and Haydon in filling up the stat sheet. The sophomore guard/forward combo also averages 5.8 rebounds per game and three assists per game. His 12 assists lead Central and is the 14th best mark in the league. Nimmer also averages one steal per game, which is the second-best mark on the team.

Newman is 1-4 this season. The Jets also started 0-3 before finding the win column. Newman beat, like UCO, Nebraska Kearney last week.

Central Oklahoma leads the all-time series 4-1. The Bronchos lost the first ever meeting back in 1982-83, then won in 1985-86 and again in 1999-2000 before a long layoff. The teams resumed the series as Newman joined the MIAA last season. UCO won at Newman 68-66 on a buzzer beater.
