Softball Inks Three Oklahoma Standouts

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma softball team announced the addition of three players Wednesday who have signed national letters of intent to play for the Bronchos.

Terin Ritz, Korbyn Skipworth, and Layne Smith all signed NLIs Wednesday. The trio will all graduate in the spring of 2021 and head Central's way to join the team for the 2022 season.

"We're excited about this class," UCO head softball coach Cody White said. "We've got a group of kids that will be able to come here and compete for playing time and that can help us in a few different spots. I think their competitiveness will drive the rest of us to be better. We're just excited to get them on campus and in a UCO uniform."

Ritz, whose older sister Tori currently plays for the Bronchos, is an All-State selection and was this fall named Class 6A-1 Player of the Year. A pitcher and first baseman, she hit 44 career home runs for Deer Creek, posted a .497 batting average, and had over 300 strikeouts.

Skipworth, a third baseman that can also play other positions, and Smith, a catcher and second baseman, both also earned All-State honors this fall. The duo from Binger-Oney High School helped their team to a pair of state championships.

Central Oklahoma is a perennial NCAA Division II power. The Bronchos won the 2013 national championship and have won the MIAA championship three times since joining the league in 2012. UCO took the crown in 2013, 2017, and 2019.
