Central Hosts Blue & White Scrimmage

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma men's basketball team hosted an abbreviated intersquad scrimmage Wednesday night at Hamilton Field House. The Blue team beat the White team 45-40 after two, 10-minute halves.

"It's good to see the guys continue to get going," UCO head men's basketball coach Bob Hoffman said. "We're most importantly thankful to just to be playing. But we did some good things tonight. We've got some good pieces and they're playing well together. We're looking forward to getting on the court, as one team and not going against each other, and seeing what we're made of."

D.J. Basey managed 14 points, six rebounds, and one block to lead the Blue team, which was coached by assistant Daniel Wheeler. Jaden Wells poured in 12 points and Kobe Higgins scored 10 points to go with four assists and four steals.

Isaiah Wade led all scorers with 16 points and all rebounders with nine boards. He paced the White team led by assistant Chad Johnson. Davon Richardson also scored in double figures, putting up 13 points. He added six rebounds.

Shemar Smith, who scored seven on the night, knocked down a 3-pointer on the game's opening possession and the Blue team soon jumped out to a 9-0 lead to start the game. Blue never looked back, leading by as many as 13 early in the second half and holding an advantage throughout the night. It shot 61.9 percent from the floor in the first half, hitting 13 of 21 shots, and finished at a solid 52.5 percent (21-for-40).

White finished at 47.1 percent overall and hit just one shot from outside on the night. The designated home team in the scrimmage did hit 7 of 11 free-throw attempts to the Blue's 0-for-4 mark from the stripe Wednesday night.

Central Oklahoma will open the 2020-21 regular season next Thursday at home. The Bronchos host Missouri Southern at Hamilton Field House at 7:30 p.m. following the women's game at 5:30 p.m. UCO also hosts Pittsburg State next Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
