Know The 'Chos: Alex Ogunseye

The University of Central Oklahoma athletic department is showcasing its student-athletes each Monday this fall with a quick glance at who your favorite Bronchos are on and off the court in a segment called Know The 'Chos, sponsored by McBride Orthopedic Hospital.

Up this week is men's basketball player Alex Ogunseye, a fifth-year senior from Sapulpa, Okla.

Ogunseye came to Central in 2016 and he sat out a redshirt season his first year on campus. He made his Broncho debut in the 2017-18, first appearing for Central in a 15-point rout of MIAA foe Rogers State in what was a non-conference matchup at the time.

Ogunseye filled a reserve role for the Bronchos during his redshirt freshman season, playing in seven games. Then as a sophomore in 2018-19, he made 10 starts in 15 appearances for the Bronchos. Last season, he played in 26 of 28 games and made seven starts.

He's been a solid contributor on and sometimes more importantly off the court. Ogunseye has scored 143 points in 48 career games, an average of 2.9 per contest. He's also pulled down 65 career rebounds in 48 career games, an average of 1.3 per contest.

Here's the file:

Name: Alex Ogunseye

Hometown: Sapulpa, Okla.

Sport: Basketball

Class: Senior

Major: Kinesiology

Favorite memory at Central: My favorite memory would have to be the team bonding activities and spending time with my brothers winning on an off the court as a unit.

Best part of UCO: The best part about UCO is meeting and getting to know all the great people here at school and being able to grow with as well as making friendships for life.

More about this student-athlete: Ogunseye is a senior returning big man aiming to continue steady growth shown in first half of career. He's a powerful player that can grab nearly any rebound and can be a solid presence on the inside both on offense and defense.

In 2018-19, he scored a season-high six points at Oklahoma Baptist in December and had a season-high five rebounds in a win over Southwestern Christian in November. He also collected four rebounds on two other occasions.

In 2017-18, he only played in seven games, and had 12 points on the season, eight of that coming against Missouri Southern. He played just six minutes in that contest but knocked down 3 of 4 shots and both free throw tries.

A prep standout at Sapulpa High School, Ogunseye earned All-Frontier Valley Conference honors his last two years. He was an All-State pick as a senior after averaging 13.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.6 steals a game.
