Central Oklahoma Welcomes Northwest Missouri

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma men's basketball team wraps up a short, two-game homestand Saturday afternoon when the Bronchos host defending national champion and No. 1 ranked Northwest Missouri. The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association matchup is slated for a 3:30 p.m. tipoff at Hamilton Field House.
 
Central Oklahoma brings a 7-14 overall record into Saturday's game and is 4-8 in the MIAA. Northwest Missouri is 19-1 overall and 9-1 in league play.
 
UCO is aiming to snap a five-game losing streak – the first of its kind since the 2003-04 season. The Bronchos won 5 of 6 prior to their recent slide.
 
The trio of Dashon Bell, Dashawn McDowell, and Camryn Givens continues to lead the UCO offense. McDowell is the team's leading scorer at 11.8 points per game, while Givens is a close second at 11.1 per contest. Bell, who averages nine points per game, is also the team's leading assist man at 3.6 per game.
 
McDowell has a team-high 85 made field goals this season, as well as a team-high 68 made free-throws. He's second on the team with 104 total rebounds, or 5.0 per game. Givens is second on the team with 71 made field goals, is tied for the team lead with 24 made 3-pointers, and is also tied with McDowell at 68 made free-throws. He is the team's leader on the boards, pulling down 5.9 per game.
 
Bell is right behind McDowell and Givens at the free-throw line, making 60 this season. He leads the team in assists as well as steals (29).
 
Central gets offensive output from a slew of other Bronchos. Justin Nimmer averages seven points per game, D.J. Basey averages 6.2, Colt Savage averages 5.7, and Cooper Clark averages 5.1. Alex Ogunseye, Jalyn Turner, Carson Calavan, and Seth Hurd all average four points per game.
 
Central Oklahoma averages 69.3 points per game, shoots 44.4 percent from the field, and at 31.5 percent from behind the arc, the Bronchos average 5.5 made 3-pointers per game.
 
Northwest, which averages 83.3 points per game, is led by Ryan Hawkins. In 20 games this season, Hawkins averages 22.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Trevor Hudgins averages 17.8 points per game and a team-high 6.5 assists per game. Diego Bernard is the third Bearcat to average double figures, scoring 14.6 points per game. He is also second on the team in rebounding, pulling down 6.6 boards per game.
 
Northwest Missouri owns an 11-3 all-time advantage in the series. The Bronchos last beat NWMSU in the 2013-14 season.
 
Central Oklahoma will hit the road for a pair of MIAA games next week. UCO plays at Nebraska Kearney on Thursday before visiting Fort Hays State next Saturday.
