Bronchos Welcome Missouri Western

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma men's basketball team hosts Missouri Western Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Hamilton Field House in the first of two Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association matchups for the Bronchos this weekend. UCO will also host Northwest Missouri Saturday.

Central Oklahoma enters this week with a 7-13 overall record and a 4-7 mark in league play. Missouri Western is 9-11 overall and 5-4 in the MIAA.

UCO is aiming to snap a four-game losing streak Thursday night. The Bronchos won four of five surrounding the holiday break, but have hit a snag since.

The Bronchos are averaging 69.2 points per game this season, shoot 44.7 percent from the floor, and continue to lead the MIAA in free-throws made and attempted. UCO is a combined 339-for-453 at the line this season and its 74.8 percent mark there ranks fourth in the league. Central has made 19 more free-throws than any other team in the league and has taken 55 more than the next best team. The made and attempted marks also rank 19th and 22nd nationally.

Camryn Givens is second on the team, scoring 11.2 points per game. The sophomore forward ranks behind McDowell in most categories but also leads the Bronchos too. He's hit a team-high 22 3-pointers this season, taken a team-high 60 from outside, and leads UCO crashing the boards with 120 rebounds, an even six per game through 20 games this season.

Dashon Bell's 9.0 points per game is third on the team. He leads the Bronchos with 72 assists, 3.4 per game, and also has a team-high 27 steals.

Central Oklahoma is also aiming to tie the all-time series with Missouri Western on Thursday night. The Bronchos dropped last season's lone meeting, 85-80, to slip behind the series, 11-10.

Missouri Western is led by Tyrell Carroll, who scores 17.6 points per game. He also averages nearly six assists per game, having assisted on 108 buckets this season. Tyus Millhollin (15.2) and Will Eames (11.7) also contribute on offense. Eames averages a team-high 7.6 rebounds per game.

UCO will remain home for the weekend, hosting Northwest Missouri Saturday at 3:30 p.m. inside Hamilton Field House. The Bearcats of Maryville, Mo. are 18-1 this season, ranked No. 1 in the country, and carry the title of defending national champions.
