Central Oklahoma Hosts Rogers State

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma women's basketball team wraps up a short, two-game homestand Saturday afternoon when the Bronchos take on Rogers State at 1:30 p.m. inside Hamilton Field House.

Central brings a 13-3 overall record into the game Saturday. UCO is 7-1 in the MIAA, which is good for second place in the league standings. UCO also brings a season-high four-game win streak into Saturday's contest. Rogers State comes to Edmond with a 2-15 overall record, an 0-8 mark in league play, and a 12-game losing streak.

UCO, which has scored over 80 points in 10 of 16 games this season, is averaging 79.8 per contest and looks to continue that high-octane offense against RSU. The Bronchos shoot 43.8 percent as a team, 33.6 percent from behind the arc, and 72.5 percent from the free-throw line. Central, which outscores opponents by 16.4 points per game, averages 7.8 made 3-pointers per contest and 13.0 made free-throws per outing.

Kelsey Johnson continues to lead the Bronchos in several categories. The junior from Washington, Okla. has a team-high 12.9 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game to her credit. She is also the team leader in field goals made (83), free-throws made (35), free-throws attempted (44), rebounds (116), and blocked shots (27). Johnson has scored in double figures in 13 of 16 games, has at least 10 rebounds in four games, and has three games this season with at least five blocks.

Seniors Micayla Haynes and Shatoya Bryson help out in plenty of ways themselves. Haynes is second on the team in scoring at 11.8 points per game. The All-MIAA selection from a year ago leads the team with 28 made 3-pointers and is second on the team with 24 steals. Bryson, who has played in 109 career games, averages 8.8 points per game and leads the team with 53 assists and 41 steals.

Jaci Littell, a freshman, ranks among the team leaders in several categories. She leads the team in 3-point percentage (43.1), hitting 22 of 51 attempts from behind the arc. Littell is second on the team in free-throws made (34), free-throws attempted (43), and rebounds (75). She's also third on the team in 3-pointers made (22), 3-pointers attempted (51), assists (35), and steals (22).

Rogers State averages 61.7 points per game through 17 games played this season. The Hillcats are led by Vanessa Gajdosova, who averages 9.3 points per game. Alicia Brown is near the same mark, scoring 9.1 points per game. Samariah Thompson, who averages 8.5 points per game, is the team's leading rebounder at 5.8 boards per game.

Central Oklahoma and Rogers State have only met once before, with that coming earlier this season. UCO won 82-59 in Claremore, Okla. Central will hit the road next week, taking on Washburn on Thursday before facing off against Emporia State on Sunday, Jan. 26.
