Central Oklahoma Welcomes RSU

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma men's basketball team hosts Rogers State Saturday afternoon in a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. from Hamilton Field House.
 
Central Oklahoma enters the contest 7-10 overall and with a 4-4 record in the MIAA. Rogers State comes to Edmond with a 13-4 overall record and a 5-3 mark in league play.
 
UCO has won four out of its last six games, all league matches, but is looking to bounce back from a two-point loss against Northeastern State on Wednesday night. The Bronchos are averaging 69.6 points per game this season through 17 games played. Central shoots 44.5 percent from the floor, 30.6 percent from behind the arc, and 74.2 percent from the free-throw line.
 
The free-throw line has been a major point of emphasis for the Bronchos this season. UCO leads the MIAA in free-throws made (296), free-throws attempted (399), and is fourth in the league in percentage. Central ranks 13th nationally in makes and 14th in the country in attempts.
 
UCO has been led all season by junior guard/forward Dashawn McDowell. The Oklahoma City native averages a team-high 12.3 points per game and is second on the team with 5.1 rebounds per game. He leads the team in several other categories – minutes played (462), field goals made (70), field goals attempted (137), free-throws made (62), and free-throws attempted (84).
 
Camryn Givens is second on the team at 9.9 points per game and the sophomore has made a surge as of late, averaging 15.1 points per game over the past four games. Givens, from McKinney, Texas, is also the team's leading rebounder at 5.9 boards per game. He's pulled down an even 100 rebounds this season. Givens plays 24.9 minutes per game this season, is a combined 53-for-125 (42.4 percent) from the floor. His 15 made 3-pointers lead the team and his 47 made free-throws are tied for the second most on the Broncho roster.
 
Rogers State enters Saturday's game averaging 77.1 points per game. The Hillcats are led by Marques Sumner, who scores 13.3 points per game and averages 4.2 rebounds per game. He also has a team-high 40 made 3-pointers. Brewster Peacock also averages double figures, scoring 11.7 points per game. He's also the team leader on the boards, pulling down 5.2 per game. Tavian Davis is the third Hillcat to score 10 per game.
 
Central and RSU have only met three times prior. RSU won the first ever meeting between the schools in the 2016-17 season, Central won in 2017-18, and the Hillcats won again earlier this season.
 
Central Oklahoma hits the road next week, taking on Washburn on Thursday night in Topeka, Kan. before visiting Emporia State on Sunday, Jan. 26.
