EDMOND (Sept. 21) – Bailey Combs had eight kills to lead a balanced attack as Central Oklahoma breezed past Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rival Newman Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

Ten players recorded at least one kill and UCO finishing with a .315 attack percentage in a 25-14, 25-16, 25-15 rout, improving to 9-3 on the season and 1-1 in league play.

"I was happy with the way we bounced back after last night," said head coach Edgar Miraku, whose team opened MIAA player Friday with a four-set loss to Pittsburg State. "We played fairly well most of the match and got to play a lot of people. We still have a long way to go, but the team is working hard."

Combs hit .353 with eight kills and two errors in 17 attacks. Amanda Desch, Lauren Jenkins, Courtney Lane and Regan Inglis all had six kills each, with Inglis adding five blocks.

Dominique Lipari had a sensational defensive outing for the Bronchos, making 28 of the team's 54 digs, while Ericka Scholl handed out 27 assists to go with four kills.

The first set was close in the early going and was tied 6-6 when UCO took charge with an 8-1 run to open up a 14-7 lead. The Jets never got closer than six the rest of the way and Chloe Hancock had two kills down the stretch to close out the set.

It was more of the same in the second set as the Bronchos again pulled away after a 6-6 deadlock, with Inglis' kill off a Desch set putting UCO in front to stay.

Central didn't waste as much time in the third set, getting kills from six different players in jumping on top 6-2. Combs, Scholl and Nalani McCrary had four kills apiece in the final set to help close out the lopsided win.

UCO goes on the road for two conference matches next week, traveling to Fort Hays State Friday and Nebraska-Kearney Saturday.
