UCO Dominates To Finish Perfect Weekend

DURANT, Okla. (Sept. 14) – Central Oklahoma capped off a perfect weekend at the Southeastern Classic Saturday afternoon with a pair of lopsided wins.

The Bronchos opened the day with a 25-13, 25-18, 25-23 sweep of Cameron and came back two hours later to dispatch Arkansas-Monticello 25-15, 25-15, 25-12. UCO dropped just one set in going 4-0 for the weekend, improving to 7-2 on the season.

"We played pretty solid today, both offensively and defensively," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "It was a good weekend and I think we make a lot of improvement. There's still a lot of work to do, but we're making progress."

Freshman Kaeli Robinson led Central against the Aggies, hitting .348 with 10 kills and just two errors in 23 attacks. Amanda Desch had nine kills, 19 assists and 10 digs in another stellar all-around outing.

The Bronchos also got five kills from Bailey Combs and four each from Nalani McCrary and Lauren Jenkins. Ericka Schell contributed 18 assists and 10 digs, while Dominique Lipari had 24 digs and two service aces as she moved into third place on the school's career digs list with 1,857.

UCO jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first set to take quick control as Robinson had four kills and Scholl a pair of aces. The second set was tied 6-6 when Desch had two aces in a 7-0 run that put the Bronchos in command.

Cameron led most of the third set and was up 20-19 when UCO rallied, going ahead to stay with a 4-0 run that was keyed by two Jenkins kills.

The Bronchos never trailed in rolling over Arkansas-Monticello to finish the perfect weekend.

Desch was once again superb with 17 assists, eight kills, seven digs and five assisted blocks. Malia Kaaiohelo hit .545 with seven kills and one error in 11 attempts to go along with five blocks.

Robinson and Jenkins added six kills each, with Lipari notching 20 digs.
