Bronchos Topple SNU

DURANT, Okla. (Sept. 13) – Amanda Desch showed off her versatility in leading Central Oklahoma past Southern Nazarene Friday night on the first day of the Southeastern Classic.

The sophomore right-side hitter/setter hit .406 with 15 kills and just two errors in 32 attacks while adding 20 assists and 11 digs as the Bronchos claimed a 25-20, 31-33, 25-15, 25-15 victory to cap a perfect 2-0 performance to start the two-day event.

UCO, now 5-2 on the season, returns Saturday to take on Cameron at 11 a.m. and Arkansas-Monticello at 3 p.m.

"Amanda had a great match and really led us tonight," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "We played pretty well for the most part and came out with a good win. It was a good day for us."

Courtney Lane had 11 kills and three blocks, with Malia Kaaiohelo adding 10 kills for the Bronchos. Kaeli Robinson contributed eight kills, Bailey Combs had seven kills and three blocks and Ericka Scholl added 21 assists and four service aces.

Central also got 32 digs from senior standout Dominique Lipari, who moved into a tie for third on the school's all-time digs list with 1,833. It was the ninth career match with 30-plus digs for Lipari, who has had at least 15 in all eight matches this season.

The Bronchos overcome deficits of 6-1 and 9-4 in the first set, finally taking the lead for good at 14-13 on a kill by Regan Inglis. SNU came back to win a back-and-forth second set to tie the match, but UCO dominated the final two sets.

Kaaiohelo had two kills and Scholl an ace as Central broke on top 7-2 in the third set in taking the lead. The Bronchos never trailed in the fourth set after taking a quick lead on back-to-back kills by Kaahioelo and Robinson.
