Jordan, Gray Falls Fuel UCO

EDMOND (Feb. 1) – Wyatt Jordan and Heath Gray scored second-period falls to propel No. 18-ranked Central Oklahoma past No. 7 Colorado State-Pueblo 29-12 Friday night at Hamilton Field House.

Colton Looper added a technical fall for the Bronchos, who improved to 10-3 on the season while staying perfect (20-0) against the Thunderwolves.  Central wraps up the home schedule Sunday, hosting No. 2 Nebraska-Kearney at 2 p.m.

"Bonus points are always big in duals like this and to get three of them really swung things our way," head coach Todd Steidley said.  "I was disappointed in the way we wrestled at a few weights and we're going to have to be a lot better Sunday."

Tanner Cole and Ty Lucas also claimed wins for UCO, while Will Steltzlen picked up a forfeit.

Cole pulled out a tight 3-1 win in the opening match at 125 pounds, taking the lead with a first-period takedown and then holding off Josiah Seaton's tying takedown tries the last 30 seconds of the match.

Lucas also prevailed in a close struggle at 157, scoring two takedowns in the final minute to claim a 5-3 victory.

Jordan followed with his fall at 165.  The junior broke a scoreless tie with an escape and takedown to open the second stanza, then turned Gavin Melendez and got the pin with 21 seconds left in the period.

Gray's fall at 184 clinched the dual for the Bronchos, but it wasn't without drama.

Aaron Benton took Gray to his back and nearly scored a pin of his own early in the match in taking a quick 6-0 lead, but Gray roared back to go ahead 7-6 by the end of the opening period.  The sophomore standout escaped to start the second, swooped in for a takedown seconds later and then ended it at the 4:26 mark.

Looper cruised in earning UCO's last win, collecting three near-falls and two takedowns in a dominating 17-1 rout that ended midway through the second period.
