Bronchos Visit Rogers State Thursday

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma men's basketball team opens conference play this week when the Bronchos take on Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association newcomer Rogers State Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Claremore Expo Center.
 
Central Oklahoma takes a 3-5 record to Rogers State. The Hillcats are 6-1. UCO and RSU have split the only two meetings all-time, witch Central winning the last meeting 68-53 in the 2017-18 season.
 
UCO as a team is averaging 67 points per game this season through eight games. The Bronchos as a team are shooting 44.8 percent from the floor overall, 32.8 percent from behind the arc, and 69 percent from the free-throw line. Central Oklahoma averages 5.5 made threes per game and 14.8 made free-throws per game.
 
Dashawn McDowell leads the Bronchos on offense this season. The junior guard/forward combo player is averaging 13.9 points per game. He shoots 56.5 percent from the floor as well and has a team-high 30 made free-throws in eight games played. He's one of two players to start all eight games for the Bronchos this season.
 
Justin Nimmer is the other player starting all eight games and he is second on the team in scoring at 9.4 points per game. Nimmer is also the team's leading rebounder at 5.3 boards per game.
 
Dashon Bell is averaging 8.3 points per game and is second on the team with 20 made free-throws. He also leads the team with 29 assists through eight games.
 
Rogers State is averaging 82 points per game as a team and shoots 47 percent from the floor through seven games this season. The Hillcats have four players averaging double figures – Marques Sumner (15.6), Brewster Peacock (13.7), Jett Sternberger (11.7), and Christopher Miller (11.4). Peacock's 6.3 rebounds per game leads the team.
 
Central Oklahoma will continue up its four-game road trip Saturday at Northeastern State with a 3:30 p.m. tipoff and wrap up the trip a week from Saturday with an exhibition game at Oral Roberts. UCO returns home in two weeks with a Dec. 17 non-conference matchup against Oklahoma Baptist.
