UCO Visits ORU Saturday

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma men's basketball team will tipoff against Oral Roberts Saturday at 7 p.m. in an exhibition matchup at The Mabee Center.

Central Oklahoma is 3-7 this season while the Golden Eagles are 4-5. Three of ORU's four wins have come against non-Division I opponents. Oral Roberts has beaten Houston Baptist, Rogers State, Southwestern Christian, and Haskell.

UCO is led into the weekend by Dashawn McDowell, who has a team-high 12.7 points per game this season. McDowell is shooting 51.2 percent from the floor overall (43-84), and has a team-high 38 made free-throws. He's hitting 70.4 percent of his free-throws (38-54). McDowell, who is from Oklahoma City, also has a team-high 52 rebounds through 10 games played.

Dashon Bell is second on the team in scoring, putting in 9.4 points per game. He shoots 41.8 percent overall and is second on the team with 31 made free-throws. Bell leads the team in assists, averaging 3.6 per contest.

Colt Savage, who averaged 6.9 points per game this season, is the team's leading shooter from outside. The sophomore has hit 14 threes in 31 tries, a 45.2 percent mark. He's also an 81.3 percent free-throw shooter, making 13 of 16 tries from the line. Justin Nimmer (8.7 ppg) and Camryn Givens (7.5 ppg) are also regular contributors on the offensive end of the floor.

UCO as a team shoots 43.1 percent overall, 31.4 percent on 3-point attempts, and 71.2 percent from the free-throw line. The Bronchos average 66.1 points per game this season while allowing 66.3.

Oral Roberts averages 77.4 points per game through nine games played this season. The Golden Eagles allow 69.1. ORU is led by a quartet of double-digit scorers. Emmanuel Nzekwesi (15.8), Max Abmas (13.7), Deondre Burns (13.0), and Kevin Obanor (10.9), all average double figures on offense for ORU. Nzekwesi is the team's leading rebounder at 8.2 per game. Elijah Lufile, who averages 8.6 points per game, also averages eight rebounds per game.

This will be just the fourth all-time meeting between the two schools separated by 90 minutes of Interstate 44. ORU has won all three contests in the series.

Central Oklahoma will return to action next week. The Bronchos will host Oklahoma Baptist Tuesday at 7 p.m. It will be just the third home game of the season for Central in what will be the 12th game on the schedule. UCO will then of course hit the road again to take on Newman in an MIAA matchup next Saturday, Dec. 21, in Wichita, Kan.
