Bronchos Drop Tough Battle To No. 10 Central Missouri

EDMOND (Nov. 8) – Serving problems proved too much for Central Oklahoma to overcome against No. 10-ranked Central Missouri as the Bronchos dropped a tough four-set decision Friday night at Hamilton Field House.

UCO committed a season-high 16 service errors – including nine in the third set alone – in falling 12-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-23. The Bronchos fell to 17-11 on the season and 9-9 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play with the defeat.

"We competed hard, but just made too many mistakes and you can't do that against good teams," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "It's a tough loss because we had plenty of chances and just didn't capitalize."

Courtney Lane led Central with 15 kills and 10 digs, while Amanda Desch had 25 assists, 11 digs and nine kills. Lauren Jenkins chipped in seven kills and Bailey Combs six.

The Bronchos also got 34 digs from Dominique Lipari and Jordan Cramer came off the bench to contribute 14 digs.

UCO jumped all over the Jennies in the opening set, getting a kill and ace from Desch during a 5-1 run that turned a 2-2 tie into a 7-3 lead. The Bronchos continued to pull away and cruised to the easy win.

Central Missouri grabbed a 10-4 lead in the second set before holding off a late Broncho rally to even the match and Jennies took advantage of UCO's third-set service woes to take the lead.

The Bronchos trailed 14-9 in the third set before rallying to tie it at 14-all and it was tied again at 18 after Malia Kaaiohelo's solo block. But UCO could never regain the lead and the Jennies went on to close out the match.

Central closes the home season Saturday, hosting No. 14 Northwest Missouri at 7 p.m. Lipari, the team's lone senior, will be honored before the start of that contest.
