Lipari Leads UCO To Upset Of No. 14 Northwest Missouri

EDMOND (Nov. 9) – Dominique Lipari saved the best performance of a sensational career for her final home appearance in guiding Central Oklahoma to a four-set upset of No. 14-ranked Northwest Missouri Saturday night at Hamilton Field House.

The senior libero had a career-high 41 digs – the seventh-best performance in school history – as the Bronchos prevailed 25-22, 25-19, 15-25, 25-15 to continue their mastery of the Bearcats. UCO completed a season sweep of NWMSU with its 11th straight win in the series.

The Bronchos improved to 18-11 on the season and 10-9 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play in handing head coach Edgar Miraku his 200th career win.

"I couldn't be more proud of our team for the way they played tonight," said Miraku, who is 200-66 in his eighth year at the helm. "They came out really ready to go and just kept fighting. It was a great win over a really good team.

"And what can you say about Dom? She's been great all year and tonight she was just unbelievable in keeping a lot of rallies alive for us."

Lipari leads NCAA Division II in digs per set with 6.88 and now ranks fourth in single-season digs at UCO with 702. She's second in career digs with 2,380.

Courtney Lane had a team-high 13 kills for the Bronchos to go along with 11 digs. Amanda Desch had another strong all-around night with 21 assists, 17 digs, 10 kills and two assisted blocks.

Central also got nine kills from Lauren Jenkins, while Bailey Combs and Malia Kaaiohelo had seven kills apiece. Kaaiohelo also had four blocks.

The Bronchos jumped out to a quick lead in the first set and was up 12-6 after a Desch ace. The advantage grew to 22-13 when Kaaiohelo and Jenkins combined for a block and UCO held off a last-ditch NWMSU rally to close out the win.

Lane had five kills and Lipari 16 digs in the second set as Central overcame an 11-4 deficit. Lipari was on serve and Kaaiohelo had back-to-back kills during a 10-0 spurt that put the Bronchos in front 14-11 en route to taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Bearcats stayed alive with a third-set victory, but UCO was not to be denied in the fourth. Jenkins' kill broke a 6-6 deadlock and sparked a 10-2 run that put the Bronchos in control as they went on to close out the match.

UCO wraps up the regular season next Saturday, going to St. Joseph, Mo. for a 3 p.m. match at Missouri Western.
