Bronchos Fall to No. 4 Washburn

TOPEKA, Kan. (Nov. 1) – Central Oklahoma fell in three sets to No. 4-ranked Washburn Friday night in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association action.

UCO made 15 attack errors and hit just .147 in dropping a 25-16, 25-15, 25-20 decision. The Bronchos fell to 16-10 on the season and 8-8 in league play, while the Ichabods improved to 21-2 and 13-2.

"I thought we fought hard, but Washburn has a great team and they were just too much for us tonight," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "We just have to move on from this and get ready for another tough one tomorrow."

Central moves on to Emporia, Kan. Saturday to face Emporia State at 7 p.m.

Courtney Lane led the Bronchos with 10 kills and nine digs. Lauren Jenkins had eight kills, while Amanda Desch contributed 16 assists, eight digs, six kills and three assisted blocks.

UCO also got 22 digs from Dominique Lipari.

The Bronchos were down 9-6 in the first set before rallying to tie it behind consecutive kills from Lane, Jenkins and Nalani McCrary but Washburn quickly gained control.

Central broke on top 4-1 in the second set a Regan Inglis and Chloe Hancock combined for a pair of blocks only to see the Ichabods reel off seven unanswered points to move in front for good.

The Bronchos fell behind 6-0 in the third set and were down 11-3 before getting two kills each from Lane and Jenkins in a 9-3 run to pull within 14-12. It was still a two-point deficit at 19-17 after Desch and McCrary combined for a block, but UCO could get no close and WU went on to close out the match.
