UCO Set For MIAA Championships Saturday

JOPLIN, Mo. – The University of Central Oklahoma cross country team is set to race in the MIAA Championships Saturday morning at Missouri Southern State's Tom Rutledge Course.

Central Oklahoma will run at 10 a.m. its first 6k race of the season. The Bronchos have competed in 5ks in each of their first four races in 2019. The MIAA men's championship follows with an 8k race at 11 a.m.

UCO is coming off its best finish of the season. Central Oklahoma took third at the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational two weeks ago in Shawnee, Okla. The Bronchos got first-, second-, and third-place finishes from Arizona Hummingbird, Harlie Hanson, and Kelsie Begansky.

Hummingbird's win was the first of her career. She hit a personal record in the race as well, running in 18:56. Hanson's second-place finish was her best mark this season though the 19:21 time was her third-fastest as a Broncho. Begansky finished in 19:22, which was also a PR.

Central Oklahoma ran in Joplin earlier this season. The Bronchos finished 23rd at the Southern Stampede on Sept. 21. At the time, seven of eight Bronchos set PRs in the race.

Central Oklahoma will also look to Jessica Cain, Erin Drewke, Adali Esquivel, Sami Harp, and Kimberly Perez to work on a low score this weekend.

Following the MIAA Championship, the NCAA Regional Championships are next on the docket for the Bronchos. UCO will return to Joplin for that event Saturday, Nov. 9.
