UCO Drops Road MIAA Match In Missouri

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The University of Central Oklahoma volleyball team dropped a road conference matchup 3-1 to No. 13 Central Missouri Saturday evening in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.

The Bronchos are now 13-6 on the season following the loss. UCO is 5-4 in the MIAA.

Bailey Combs and Courtney Lane led a spirited first-set charge for the Bronchos to take a 25-22 win in the frame. Combs tallied six kills in the set and Lane, four. Amanda Desch, who had a pair of kills, also had eight assists while Ericka Scholl chipped in seven. Dominique Lipari continued her defensive prowess with 10 digs in the opening set, which had 10 ties.

UCO led 1-0 in the match, but Central Missouri responded with a 25-19 win in the second set to tie it up. Lane had four more kills in set two, while Desch and Lauren Jenkins added three apiece. Desch had five more assists in the set as well.

The Jennies made it 2-1 after a 25-14 third-set win. Mia Kaaihelo scored the first three points of the set for the Bronchos, earning three early kills. Desch continued her stellar play with three more kills and five more assists. But six consecutive points in the middle of the set by UCM was to much for the Bronchos.

Central Missouri got an early lead in the fourth set and used a similar run to pull ahead. The Bronchos trailed by seven, 13-6, and eventually by eight, 24-16. But a furious run at the end saw UCO put five straight points on the board to make it 24-21. UCM finished it off however, 25-21.

Desch led the way on the night with yet another triple-double. The sophomore had a team-high 12 kills and 25 assists, while also putting up 11 digs. Combs and Lane both finished with 10 kills.

Lipari finished with 27 digs. It was her 13th match of the season with more than 20. The senior from Kansas City, Mo. is up to 445 digs this season.

Central Oklahoma will return home for a mid-week MIAA match against Newman. That contest is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday. The Bronchos will also be home at 6 p.m. Friday against Missouri Western.
