UCO Hosts No. 2 Northwest Missouri Saturday

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma men's basketball team will take on Northwest Missouri on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 3:30 p.m. in Hamilton Field House in a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association affair.

The Bronchos are 7-5 on the season and 0-3 in league play after taking a tough loss to Missouri Western on Thursday. The Bearcats are 13-0, 3-0 after defeating Northeastern State.

"This is going to be a tough matchup." UCO head coach Tom Hankins said. "Northwest Missouri is really athletic, and they play good defense, so we are going to have to be disciplined in what we do."

UCO is averaging 80.8 points and 35.5 rebounds a game. The Bronchos shoot 44 percent from the field and continue to knock down free-throws averaging 81 percent.

Adarius Avery leads the Bronchos averaging 19.9 points and 9.8 rebounds. He ranks fourth in scoring in the MIAA. The Memphis, Tenn. native has scored double-figures in every game.

Ashford Golden averages 14.3 points and leads the team in blocks with nine. Josh Holliday averages 9.8 points and Jaylan Williams averages 8.9.

The Bronchos defensively are allowing 74.4 points per game and hold opponents to a 45 percent field goal percentage. UCO also beats their opponent in steals, 101-57.

Trevor Hudgins leads the Bearcats, averaging 19.5 points. Ryan Hawkins averaging 17.8 points and 10 rebounds. He leads Northwest Missouri in steals with 32. Joey Witthus averages 16.8 points.

UCO will continue their season after this matchup with two games on the road. They will face Nebraska Kearney on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m. They will then travel to Kansas to take on Fort Hays State Saturday, Jan. 12 at 3:30 p.m.
