Broncho Road Trip Ends In Lincoln Saturday

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The University of Central Oklahoma women's basketball team wraps up a short, two-game road trip Saturday, when the Bronchos take on Lincoln in a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association contest at Jason Gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
Central Oklahoma is 12-7 on the season, and 3-6 in league play following a loss at Lindenwood on Thursday night. Lincoln is 9-8 on the season and 1-7 in the MIAA.
 
"We need to come out ready to play and give a good effort so we can bounce back after Thursday's loss," UCO head women's basketball coach Guy Hardaker said. "Lincoln has a good team. They're athletic. We need to just focus on playing our game and playing a good, solid game."
 
UCO continues to be led by a trio of juniors each averaging at or around 11 points per game. Micayla Haynes leads the bunch, scoring 11.8 points per game. Ireon Smith averages 11.4, and Shatoya Bryson averages 10.8 per contest.
 
The group leads UCO in most statistical categories too.
 
Haynes has a team-high 36 made 3-pointers this season and is second on the team with 31 made free-throws. Smith leads the team with 93 made field goals this season has a team-high 150 rebounds, second-most in the league, and 27 blocked shots, which is fifth-most in the MIAA. And Bryson owns the team-high for minutes played (29.8/game), made free-throws (38), assists (57, 3.0/game), and steals (34).
 
Senior Blake Blessington averages 8.7 points per game and is second on the team behind Smith with 96 rebounds, 5.1 per game.
 
Lincoln is led by Zhanesha Dickerson, who averages 15.9 points per game. The Blue Tigers also have three players averaging double figures scoring the basketball. Zoi Thompson joins Dickerson averaging 15 points per game, and Bre Coleman averages 13 points per game.
 
Dickerson and Coleman also both average eight rebounds per game to lead Lincoln in that category.
 
The Blue Tigers as a team average 69.9 points per game this season and shoot, on average, 42.8 percent from the field. Lincoln shoots just 26.9 percent from behind the arc.
 
Central Oklahoma will return home next weekend as MIAA play rolls along. The Bronchos host Southwest Baptist at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 and Central Missouri at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2.
