The University of Central Oklahoma men's basketball team hosts Missouri Western Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in Hamilton Field House in a Mid-America Collegiate Athletics Association matchup. The Bronchos are 7-4 on the season with an 0-2 mark in league play.
 
"The guys need to come out ready to play and get a conference win under the belt." UCO head coach Tom Hankins said. "This league is very tough and we've already fallen behind losing our first two games. We have to come out ready and get a win."
 
UCO lost at Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State in December's MIAA games. Missouri Western is 6-7 this season and also 0-2 in league play.
 
The Bronchos average 80.1 points per game this season and have a plus-6.6 scoring margin over their opponents. Central as a team shoots 43.3 percent from the field, 33.8 percent from behind the arc, and an MIAA-best 81 percent from the free-throw line.
 
Adarius Avery leads the Bronchos averaging 20.4 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. Despite only playing twenty minutes in the win against Tabor he continued to score double figures in every game played this season. Avery scored 14 points last Saturday on a perfect 7-for-7 afternoon.
 
Ashford Golden averages 13.2 points per game and Josh Holliday 10.7 per game to give UCO three players averaging double figures. Holliday also leads the team in made 3-pointers with 22.
 
These two teams faced each other last year early in the season and UCO came out on top 65-61. Hankins is 2-2 against Missouri Western all time.
 
Lavon Hightower leads the Griffons averaging 18.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Bryan Hudson (12.5), Tyrell Carroll (10.5), and Tyus Millhollin (10.3) also score in double figures for Western.
 
Missouri Western averages 73.6 points per game, shoots 42.7 percent from the field, and has a 33 percent mark from 3-point land this season. The Griffons also shoot 69.9 percent from the free-throw line.
 
The Bronchos continue their season on Saturday, Jan. 5 against Northwest Missouri in Hamilton at 3:30 p.m., wrapping up a brief three-game homestand. Central then has two games on the road. UCO will take on Nebraska Kearney on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m. and Fort Hays State on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 3:30 p.m.
